Opus Orchestra has a vision, to provide the highest possible standard of musical performance for audiences in the Waikato/Bay of Plenty region and the wider Central North Island through a programme of 12-15 concerts annually.

It enhances the cultural identity of the region by providing performance opportunities for experienced local musicians and younger players, like the growing number of talented graduates from the Music Department of the University of Waikato.

Opus plays a vital role in the cultural life of the region through collaborations with many high profile musical entities as well as accompanying the University of Waikato’s annual Concerto Competition winner.

Peter Walls

Peter Walls, Opus’ Musical Director, has conducted professionally in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom. He is the Chief Executive of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and has an international reputation as an early music specialist and his CD for Naxos of motets by Peter Philips was listed by Neue Musik Zeitung as one of the top early music CDs released in 2002 and received a CHOC award from Le Monde de Musique.Read more…
